Investment Analysts and Business Consultants
adr.com Part of JP Morgan this site
provides information on those companies which offer American Depository
Receipts (ADRs) on the US stock exchange. The biggest industry category covered
is telecommunications, consisting of 74 international operators (eg BT, France
Telecom, NTT, Deutsche Telekom etc). A large amount of financial information is
provided for each company and is displayed in a fairly standardised form. This
makes comparative financial analysis much easier for companies coming from all
over the world.
Analysys Ltd This UK company is
based in Cambridge and is described as 'The Consultants in Telecoms Strategy'.
Their publications are listed on-line but little complimentary access is
provided. A very useful part of the site, however, is the
'Virtual Library' which includes a
number of telecoms-related sections including finance, journals and data
sources. A short commentary for most of the links makes finding relevant
material much easier.
Frost and Sullivan This
link takes you on to the 'Telecom Market Engineering' part of the site. Here
you are given information on a number of reports (fee charged), but also a
large number of highly relevant newsletter articles which are free to view. You
will have to register before seeing them, though. There is also a search
engine.
Goldman Sachs Another of the main
investment institutions involved in the telecoms industry. The most relevant
part of the site for our purposes is the
Research part of the High
Technology area. Here a number of reports are made available in PDF
covering areas such as broadband access and wireless communications.
KPMG The UK site for KPMG provides
a Virtual Library, containing a number of consultancy reports on different
aspects of digital communications.
McKinsey You need to register on
this site before you can gain access to the McKinsey Quarterly which goes back
to 1993. Go to the telecoms section and you have around a dozen excellent
articles on the global communications market.
Merrill
Lynch This link takes you to the registration page for the site. Unlike
Salomon Smith Barney they do allow UK users to get onto the research part of
the site. Once registered a large amount of investment orientated information
is available for individual telecoms companies. In the process of explaining if
a particular outfit is a 'buy', 'hold' or 'sell' their reports also offer a
number of insights into the industry as a whole.
Morgan Stanley Dean Witter This site
provides an extensive amount of freely available telecommunications and
internet research (of excellent quality). At the bottom of the Home Page there
is a research section. By following the links you are able to view numerous
research documents in PDF format. Two reports which may prove particularly
useful are 'Global Telecommunications Primer' and 'The European Internet
Report'.
Pricewaterhouse
Coopers (PwC) PwC have a section of their site dedicated to
telecoms.
Here, in the "Industry Vision" section, a report entitled
Telecoms
2000 is freely available. Another site they run called
Next Wave focuses upon "ideas for
private equity investors and entrepreneurs in the technology industry".
Renaissance Worldwide One of the
most important consultancies for the telecoms industry, Renaissance do not give
away a great deal for free on their site. You can download their 'White Papers'
which cover general issues including business communications. There are also
'Newsletters' on show. A search facility is also provided.
Salomon Smith Barney This
company has played a leading role in the development of the global telecoms
market over the last few years. Their analysis of the industry tends to be
first class. Unfortunately, in order to get access to research on their Web
site you need to be a US citizen (this, they claim, is due to international
regulations).
The
Yankee Group Another of the
major telecoms consultancies which offers a limited amount of material for
free. After registering you can view the executive summaries for a number of
articles classified according to headings such as Euroscope Communications and
Internet Strategies Europe. A search engine is available.
